Inter Region Economic Network, Nairobi
In 2001, James Shikwati decided to leave his position as a teacher of geography and ethics at Kiptewit High School, and drew on his training in economic science to set up the think tank Inter Region Economic Network in Nairobi. This think tank aims to create a new liberal economic environment in Africa. In addition to his work as director, he writes for numerous Kenyan and international newspapers and magazines, including The Times, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal and The East African Standard.

Liberata Mulamula
International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, Bujumbura
At the end of 2006, Liberata Mulamula was appointed Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) in Burundi. Prior to that, she helped organise the process for setting up the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), and was the national coordinator for Tanzania. During her diplomatic career, which has spanned almost three decades, and included involvement in Tanzania‘s permanent representation to the United Nations, her mediation skills stood her to good stead, for example, during the Rwandan peace talks held in Arusha between 1992 and 1994, and prior to that, as a member of the United Nations/Organization of African Unity expert group on dismantling nuclear weapons in Africa.
Daniel Braun
German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Bonn
Daniel Braun studied journalism in Munich with a focus on International Politics and worked as a journalist and freelance consultant for two years. After working for the German Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation in the Palestinian Territories and UNDP in East Jerusalem, he joined the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development initially as an Adviser on the Middle East. He is currently the desk officer for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Burundi.

Peter Buchholz
German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, Hanover
Peter Buchholz is a senior researcher for the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) and is head of the advisory group Mineral Economics. Having obtained a doctorate in economic geology in Aachen, in 1994 he became assistant professor at Freiberg University, and headed the MSc programme in Exploration Geology at the University of Zimbabwe between 1998 and 2002. He has won several German and international awards for his research and publications on exploration, mining and trade of metals and industrial minerals. In 2003, he received the Mining Journal Innovation Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Since 2003, Alamine Ousmane Mey has been Director General of the Afriland First Bank, Cameroon‘s first private bank that is not foreign-owned. A qualified financial expert and electrical engineer, Alamine studied in Germany, Belgium, Tunisia and other countries. He is a member of the board of a number of companies, including SAFAR S.A., an insurance company in Chad, and SACONETS S.A., a telecommunications company in Cameroon. Since 2004, he has been chairperson of the Gatsby Foundation in Cameroon.
